If you were unable to join Rincon Hill neighbors on Tuesday, August 24th when Lev Kushner from the Recreation and Parks Department discussed the proposed bocce ball courts for the grassy park space by the Railway Museum, you have another opportunity to hear about the proposed idea this coming Tuesday.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department invites interested community members to attend a meeting to discuss a proposed gift to the City of construction of bocce courts in the lawn at Justin Herman Plaza.

This proposed gift includes a clause that would require the donor to remove the courts at any time in the future should the City decide to pursue other uses of the plaza.

By the way, did you see the article in the Chronicle by Rachel Gordon today about Rincon Hill resident Adhamina Rodriguez’s determination to try to get a children’s playground built for the 900+ kids in our neighborhood each weekday (not to mention hundreds to thousands visiting the Ferry Building an on the north side of Market Street)?

As an update, Adhamina and I along with the help of some friends who work for the City are trying to find out if the concrete slab just south of the grassy park space that will likely become partially changed to bocce ball courts might also be Recreation and Parks Department Property. If so, that might be a great spot for a playground instead of just serving as a parking spot for City of San Francisco vehicles. That way, we could have bocce ball in the grassy section of the park space and, if it is park space, a playground on what is now concrete just south of the grassy park space.
