Samsung has revealed its new line of midrange Galaxy phones today. The reveal showcased the 2016 editions of the Samsung Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. With this new line, Samsung hopes that budget-minded consumers will be attracted by the affordable prices and premium features. The company is also hoping that the phones will give them an edge on the competition.
The three new Galaxy A phones are updated and revamped versions of the current Galaxy A3 and A5 and the A7. The new line of phones have frames that combine both metal and glass. The phone also has a narrower bezel to increase the display size. Each comes with 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot.
Each of the three Galaxy phone versions have different screen sizes. The Galaxy A3 offers a 4.7-inch 1,280×720 display, while the A5 has a 5.2-inch display with 1,920×1,080 pixels and the A7 has a 5.5-inch screen and a 1,920×1,080 resolution. The A3 runs on a 1.5 GHz quad-core chip, while the two larger handsets each run on a 1.6 GHz octo-core processor.
All three models have high-resolution displays and advanced cameras. Samsung’s Super AMOLED displays used on the phones are designed to be thinner, lighter and brighter than the LCD screens used on other handsets. The new camera system produces brighter and clearer photos and videos than the predecessors and includes Optical Image Stabilization, which minimizes blurry images in dark conditions. Double-clicking the home button is a Quick Launch to snap a photo.
Users can use the Samsung Pay mobile payment system with two of the new models. The company’s new mobile payments system, with its fingerprint sensor security measure, is only available on the A5 and A7
The new Samsung Galaxy phones will be released in China first, scheduled for mid-December. The phones will then be rolled out to other markets around the world. The company has been struggling to increase its marketshare in China against Xiaomi and Huawei.
Samsung, based in South Korea, is currently the top smartphone maker in the world. Apple has second place in the worldwide market. Huawei and Xiaomi are in the third and fourth position, respectively
Samsung has not officially revealed prices for the new phones yet, but reports have surfaced that the A3 will cost $347 and the A5 will sell for $421. The price of the A7 is still unknown, but predictions are that it will cost about $495.
